About Us

Mammoth Lakes Foundation (MLF) supports higher education and cultural enrichment in the Eastern Sierra. Founded in 1989 by Dave and Roma McCoy and their friends, MLF was created from Dave’s belief that a vibrant community needs opportunities for education, arts, and culture alongside world-class outdoor recreation.

Today, MLF continues the McCoy legacy by supporting local students through scholarships and educational programs. The Dave’s Scholar Program provides tuition assistance, textbook support, mentorship, and resources for Mono County high school graduates and Mono County residents pursuing degree or certificate programs at Cerro Coso Community College’s Mammoth Lakes campus.

MLF also supports workforce development through the Gary McCoy Next-Mile Scholarship, providing assistance for Career Technical Education (CTE) programs, including tuition, books, supplies, equipment, and other educational needs. Transfer Scholarships help Dave’s Scholars continue their education at four-year universities.

MLF has also contributed significantly to cultural enrichment in the Eastern Sierra through the development of the Dave & Roma McCoy Arts & Cultural Center. MLF completed Phase 1 of the project and provided significant support toward the larger facility before transferring ownership to the Town of Mammoth Lakes in summer 2025, allowing the community’s vision for a regional arts and cultural center to continue.

MLF remains committed to strengthening the Eastern Sierra through education, workforce development, and cultural opportunities for generations to come.
